SERMON NOTES:

This week’s message allows us to study one of the most beautiful passages in all of Scripture. Some of you have read this passage hundreds of times, but maybe it has never resonated with you. In Philippians 2:5-8 Paul shows us what true humility looks like. Humility is something that we all should be striving after, but it is one of the most difficult attributes to grasp. It always seems so far away from where our heart truly is. By nature, we are selfish and prideful and we desperately need the Holy Spirit to do a work deep inside of us so that we can see the beauty of this powerful passage. Think about this next thought for a moment. In Christianity you see God looking down on wretched sinners who hate Him and are His enemies. He still willingly yielded up His privileges and authority to come down to rescue us from ourselves. He gives up His glory for the brokenness and darkness of this earth. He gives up the worship of angels for the spit and rejection of men. He gives up all of the shining brilliance of the glories of heaven for the dark prison where He was kept before His death. Yes, He emptied out His glory for our salvation. Yet often we find it difficult to empty our preferences and desires for the hope of others’ salvation.
